MIIS, McGowan 102
411 Pacific Street, Monterey

Sponsored by Alliance Française de la Péninsule de Monterey, in partnership with MIIS, this free lecture in English is open to all. There is no need to reserve. A “Q&A” will follow this 50 minutes conference and those who wish can meet for lunch with guest speaker at Jack’s Restaurant

Mark Stokle was born in the United States of an English father and a French mother. He grew up in both languages. With a degree in ancient history from University of London, he worked for many years in the tourism sector in France (Versailles). He has always had a passion for history and French culture. Before arriving in Fresno, Mark resided in Chartres in the historic district near the cathedral. He currently teaches French at the Alliance Française of Fresno.

Despite several wars and natural disasters, the medieval cathedral of Chartres is one of the best preserved in France. Designated a historical monument of World Heritage by UNESCO in 1979, it is world renowned for its beautiful stained glass windows and unique iconography. Today it remains a center of pilgrimage that attracts thousands of Christians every year from around the world.
