The Influence of Japanese Art on the French Art World
The Asian Art Society of Monterey Bay is sponsoring a presentation by Alliance Française Board Director Melinda Coffey Armstead entitled “How the West Fell In Love with Japan: The Influence of Japanese Art on the French Art World” on Tuesday, 14 June, Hacienda Carmel “Casa Fiesta” at 6:30 P.M. Dessert and coffee and tea will be served. Before the presentation, there is an optional dinner Robata Grill—Barnyard, at 5 PM. The $25 per person price includes hot tea, Miso soup, white rice, edamame, pokki, tofu, kakiage, eggplant, pork ribs, nikumaki, shumai, tempura, and gyoza. Melinda Coffey Armstead, Music Director of the Church in the Forest, classical pianist and art historian, will present an informative slide show on the influence of famous Japanese artists on the French art world. The opening of Japan in 1854 hit the French art scene with an intoxicating tide of images, objects and textiles that revolutionized the arts in France. Accompanied by a stunning slide presentation featuring Japanese netsuke, wood block prints, and works by French Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, Ms. Armstead will perform some Debussy pieces on the Steinway Grand Piano. L’Influence de l’art japonais sur l’art en France
L’Association de l’Art Asiatique de la Baie de Monterey sponsorise une présentation par Melinda Coffey Armstead, membre du Conseil d’Administration de l’ Alliance Française, sur l’influence de l’art japonais sur l’art en France, le mardi 14 juin à Hacienda Carmel “Casa Fiesta” à 18h30. L’ouverture du Japon en 1854 a frappé la scène artistique française avec une abondante profusion d’images, d’objets, et de textiles qui ont révolutionné les arts en France. Un superbe diaporama accompagnera l’exposé et des netsukes japonais, gravures sur bois et ouvrages en français sur les Impressionnistes et Post-Impressionnistes seront présentés.
