Author talk with Isaline REMY

Sunday, 20 October
2 – 4 PM in V499 (499 Van Buren street, Monterey CA 93940), on the MIIS campus.

The Alliance Française has invited French author Isaline REMY for a lecture and book signing for her book “Les Garçailles” about Northern Brittany from the 1920s to the present day. You may read her biography here.

Remy will speak about the mass arrival of Britons to the Parisian region who, with their courage and baggage alone, were prepared to do anything to regain their country with pride and dignity. Remy’s book is a chronology of her ancestors, a poor Breton family of 7 (“Les Garçailles), from the 1920’s on.

This free event will be in French. Simultaneous interpretation into English will be available for those wishing interpretation (interpretation provided by students in the MIIS Translation and Interpretation program). Please come with your families!

There will be a reception following; please expect an email as we get closer to the date with more information.

Past Activities: Thé de la Rentrée

Thank you all who came to get together on September 16th for our yearly Thé de la Rentrée. Sincere thanks to Bruce Albright for hosting in his beautiful home! We enjoyed tea, champagne and delicious finger food brought by our members and had a great time catching up.

Jessica Morris (French teacher at North Salinas High School) and Julie Hoefling (French teacher at Everett Alvarez High School) gave a report and showed pictures of their trip to Europe with their students. Jeremy Frye (graduate student French teacher at the Middlebury Institute) shared his plans to use scholarship funds to create engaging activities for his French students. Jessica, Julie, and Jeremy were all recipients of the AF Scholarship given last April.

We also had great raffle prizes given by our members and a lot of fun drawing the winners. Thank you all for your thoughtfulness and generosity. Starting to build our fund for our next scholarship!
