Bastille Day Picnic 2017

Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 12:00pm: Fête du 14 juillet (“Bastille Day”) – BBQ/picnic/potluck at Via Paraiso Park (129 Via Paraiso), Monterey.

You may bring meat/sausages for grilling – a fire will be ready.

You are welcome to bring a musical instrument, and we may sing some French songs.

A Bastille day celebration cake will be provided.

Culinary Event

Tuesday, 25 April
Time:  6:00 PM, Monterey Peninsula College

This was a very successful, and delicious, three-way gastronomic event, with Cooking Professor Chef André educating the audience on, and demonstrating, French-influenced culinary methods; with MIIS interpretation students translating from French into English; and with our own AF members playing the vital roles of taster and critic.  Some hands-on effort was necessary to help cook, serve and taste!  Wine was provided by the AF to accompany the fruits of our efforts.  And a good time was had by all!

 

Concours de Poésie 2017

Saturday, 25 March
Irvine Auditorium, McCone Bldg., MIIS, 499 Pierce Street, Monterey
2:00 PM

Students from several local schools will recite famous French poems or original ones that they have composed.
Prizes will be awarded for the best performances.
Please come to encourage and support the students.

Beverages will be available at Intermission.

“Si on Chantait“ Concert

Location: Del Mesa Carmel, Carmel-by-the-Sea
Time: 3:00 PM (Please arrive early)
French singers Aline Deforge et Emmanuel Preslin will sing French songs with projected pictures. They came last year and everyone loved their typical French repertoire with many classical songs.

$15.00 for members and $ 20.00 for non-members. To make reservations go to the payments page, fill out the form entering the appropriate amount and make a payment using PayPal. There will be a raffle to benefit the scholarship fund.

To thank Del Mesa Carmel for hosting us, attendees are invited to stay for dinner at Club Mesa. Most entrées are about $16 – 18, and split plates and half portions are available. Fête de la Chandeleur 2017

To celebrate La Chandeleur, l’Alliance will provide batter to make a few crepes on site and cider.
We need volunteers to bring a dozen crepes or so with your favorite topping.
Free for members, $5.00 for guests of members.

Either way don’t forget to include your choice of meal (salmon or lamb). It is imperative that confirm your reservation before Thursday, December 8 at the latest.

You will easily find Los Laureles Lodge located on Carmel Valley Road shortly after Los Laureles Grade and Bernadus Lodge. The spacious parking lot is on the right as you enter. If you do not drive and want to attend the luncheon, contact Pascale Richards-Deliens so she may help arrange carpooling.

It’s election time! Our AF chapter will hold our annual election in November and December for officers and directors to serve two-year terms beginning in January 2017.  This is an opportunity to serve our chapter and to help guide it in the direction you prefer.

Fall Wine-Tasting Event

On Sunday, 13 November, there will be a Fall Wine-Tasting Event, 2:00-5:00 P.M., at Catherine Zahm’s home (see bulletin for address). Member Catherine Zahm and Vice-President Jim Richards are coordinating the event. Participants are asked to bring a bottle of wine in a bag to hide the label, and an appetizer.
