Film Night

Film: Le Chef

Synopsis: A veteran chef faces off against his restaurant group’s new CEO, who wants to the establishment to lose a star from its rating in order to bring in a younger chef who specializes in molecular gastronomy.

NB: Because we cannot gather together to watch the film, the soirée ciné event will be conducted as follows. Before the event, you can watch the film on Amazon Prime at your convenience. Then, we will meet at 4pm the day-of to discuss the film over Zoom. A warm thank you to Director Pascale Richards-Deliens, who will facilitate the discussion. Lecture at MIIS by the Consul Général de France à San Francisco

AF members are invited to attend a lecture at MIIS (Middlebury Institute of International Studies) Monterey, by the Consul Général de France à San Francisco, Mr. Emmanuel Lebrun-Damiens. The lecture takes place at McGowan Hall, Rm. 102, 411 Pacific St., Monterey on Saturday, November 23 from 10:00 am to noon. Topic: “La politique étrangère de la France” (“France’s foreign policy”). Simultaneous interpretation available from French to English.

We will be very honored to have with us the Consul Général de France à San Francisco, who is making special arrangements to be here for the AF. We are asking our members to come in great numbers, as this is a rare event and we want to show our support for the Consul.

A reception will follow in the lobby of McGowan and will give everyone a chance to meet the Consul.

Author talk with Isaline REMY

Sunday, 20 October
2 – 4 PM in V499 (499 Van Buren street, Monterey CA 93940), on the MIIS campus.

The Alliance Française has invited French author Isaline REMY for a lecture and book signing for her book “Les Garçailles” about Northern Brittany from the 1920s to the present day. You may read her biography here.

Remy will speak about the mass arrival of Britons to the Parisian region who, with their courage and baggage alone, were prepared to do anything to regain their country with pride and dignity. Remy’s book is a chronology of her ancestors, a poor Breton family of 7 (“Les Garçailles), from the 1920’s on.

This free event will be in French. Simultaneous interpretation into English will be available for those wishing interpretation (interpretation provided by students in the MIIS Translation and Interpretation program). Please come with your families!

There will be a reception following; please expect an email as we get closer to the date with more information.
